The quality of your
presentation will determine whether a prospect buys from you, retains the information disseminated, learns what you are teaching
or is persuaded by your arguments. Below are five presentation tips to help you create a presentation that will motivate,
move and compel your audience.
1. Make the presentation relevant
The most common mistake
people make is to use a generic presentation. Dr. Kelly Roberson writes “I have been victim to this approach more times
than I care to remember having been subjected to many “canned” generic PowerPoint presentations.”
2. Create a connection between your
product/services/material/
information/argument and the audience.
Find examples of how
your audience is specifically impacted by your material.
3. Be animated.
A poll conducted of
today’s business men and women shows that the majority of the presentations attended are perceived to be “boring
and unimaginative”. If you really want to stand out from the crowd, make sure you have demonstrated enthusiasm and energy
in your slides.
4. Use showmanship
In The Sale Advantage, an example is given of a vending sales person laying a heavy sheet of paper on the floor,
saying, “If I could show you how that space could make you some money, would you be interested?” – Consider
the impact of an intuitive approach compared to the typical approach. Have you considered what you can incorporate to show
showmanship into your presentation?
5. Use demonstrations.
Use facts, figures,
pictures and records. This approach never fails to help propagate information and persuade your audience in your favor.
